Open Energies, Smart Energy Systems France 2024

Exhibition Date: 2024.01.23-24

Location: Lyon International Convention Centre, France

Open Energies is organised by GL events, the green tech sector of which "green tech+" consists of nine brands focusing on eco-innovation
and sustainable development. Open Energies and BePOSITIVE are sister trade fairs, held on a biennial basis. 2023 BePOSITIVE was successfully
held in Lyon, bringing together many internationally renowned companies, and Open Energies, also a sister trade fair, is committed to providing
a global vision of the digitalisation of energy from production to use, and will be a grand gathering for digital solutions for the energy system.
It will also be a great meeting for digital solutions for energy systems.
Themes

Digitisation for energy use - what are the existing uses in the new core markets and which ones are yet to be invented, not as gadgets, but in
the form of open, interoperable solutions?

Digital and energy performance - how do we reconcile the exponential growth in energy demand triggered by digitalisation with the need to
decarbonise the economy?

Hardware cybersecurity - how do we protect against risks (blackouts, hacking, data breaches, etc.) in an increasingly connected and digitised
environment? What are the solutions and regulatory issues?

Market News

In 2022, French President Macron announced the French Energy Plan for 2050. In order to meet the challenges of climate change and growing
demand for electricity, and to ensure that the 2050 carbon neutrality target is met, France will vigorously develop renewable energy and nuclear
energy. In terms of renewable energy, the focus will be on the development of solar and wind energy, with the former expected to have a
cumulative installed capacity of more than 100 GW by 2050 and the latter expected to have a cumulative installed capacity of nearly 80 GW. With
regard to nuclear energy, France plans to build six new third-generation pressurised water reactors (EPR2) by 2050, the first of which will be
operational in 2035, and to conduct feasibility studies for the construction of eight more reactors. In addition, the government will require that the
lifespan of nuclear reactors currently in operation be extended from 40 to 50 years, provided that safe operation is guaranteed. Through the above
measures, an additional 25 GW of installed nuclear power capacity will be added by 2050.
